How to Have Fun Tidying the Playroom

How to Have Fun Tidying the Playroom

It's 2019! You'd think by now we'd all have our own robot maids to do all the household chores for us, right? Remember Rosie from the Jetsons? I want a Rosie!

But, sadly for us, that all still seems like it's decades away. Until then, we're going to need to continue picking up after ourselves. Not only that, but we need to teach our little ones the importance of tidying up too - and unless you're the parent of the one child in the world who actually likes to chores, you may be looking for some ways to make tidying up more enjoyable for everyone involved. So, without further adieu, here are seven ways to make tidying the playroom more fun!

We've all seen this before.

1. PUT ON SOME MUSIC

You've probably already got a playlist going on your phone or computer with all of your child's favourite songs. Pump it up on the speakers, work to the beat, and have fun dancing from one messy area to the next.

2. MAKE IT A COUNTDOWN GAME

This is a really fun one! Set a timer and challenge the kids to get all the toys back in the toy box before the time runs out! Gold star stickers at the ready for when they win!

3. MAKE UP A STORY

Maybe the toys on the floor are actually dinosaur eggs, and the toy box is the nest, and you have to get them all back in safely before other dinosaurs come along and eat them!

4. COLOUR MATCHING

This one is a little trickier - for the pros - but it's another way of making it a game. Pick up all the things off the floor and tidy them away by colour. If you can pull this one off, you're a true master of parenthood as you're not only cleaning the room but making it educational at the same time.

5. OFFER A REWARD

Some parents don't like taking this approach, but others find it helpful. Offer your kids a small reward if they get their chores done - perhaps a trip to the park, a story, maybe even a piece of chocolate... but whatever you do, don't you eat any chocolate in front of the kids as you watch them tidy. Trust me.

6. PLAY BASKETBALL

This is my go-to game for tidying up even when the kids aren't around! I often play with dirty clothes and the laundry basket, but it also works well with toys and the toy box. See how far out you make the shot! Now obviously don't play with toys that are hard or can break. It works best with plush toys. Still a fun one though!

7. PLAY & GO

Our 'Play & Go' was a game changer for our play room! It makes tidying up a total breeze. When it's time to pack up, just scoop up any loose toys that aren't already on top of the mat, pull the strings and you're done! The bag also looks lovely, adding a splash of colour to the play room. Another plus - when it's time to go on a trip, all of the toys are bagged and ready to go! I can't promote them enough, Play & Go are a real winner!

8. MAKE ANOTHER ROOM EVEN MESSIER SO THE FIRST ROOM DOESN'T SEEM SO BAD BY COMPARISON
